STEREO 974, whose motto is ‘By the community, for the community’, is a non-profit organisation managed by a committee of community members.

In 1978, Labour MP Barry Jones formed STEREO 974 to offer residents of the western suburbs a local radio station which provides programming relevant to life in the area.

Each week about 250,000 people tune into STEREO 974’s programs which include 45 hours of ethnic radio, including programs in Croatian, Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Maltese, Serbian, Turkish and Vietnamese..

“STEREO 974 is committed to providing the community with a local entertainment and locally-based news. We achieve this through broadcasting events such as Western Region Football League (WRFL) matches, which is a great example of two not-for-profit groups working together in our community,” said General Manager Rod Boyd.
