STEREO 974 was thrilled to support and be part of the CONVOY FOR KIDS DAY which was held on SUNDAY 18 FEBRUARY 2007, at the MELBOURNE MARKETS, 542 FOOTSCRAY ROAD, WEST MELBOURNE.

STEREO 974, broadcast live from 10am until 3pm from our Outside Broadcast Van. This outside broadcast featured Interviews, Music, and all the fun of the day.

STORM DAMAGE TO STAND-BY TRANSMITTER MAST Posted: Mon 12th Feb 2007 - 14:02

STEREO 974 General Manager, Rod Boyd said today "STEREO 974 suffered Storm Damage to our Stand-By Transmitter Mast at our Studios yesterday, during the high winds that battered Melbourne.

Work is still going on around the clock and a great deal of effort is being put in by everyone here at STEREO 974, as this is our Standby Transmitter Antenna situated at our Studio's in Brooklyn our On-Air Signal has not been affected. Our Standby Transmitter Facilities are utilised when there is a Power Outage at our Main Transmitter site in Tottenham. As STEREO 974 is the Emergency Response Broadcaster for the area, we have planned and implemented that even if Mains Power is not available, utilising our Automatic Power Generation Unit, we can remain on air at our Studio's, hence we are self sufficient.

STEREO 974 RESPONDS RE GAS LEAK IN NORTH SUNSHINE Posted: Mon 12th Feb 2007 - 14:02

At 7-30am today (Friday 9 February 2007) General Manager of STEREO 974 Mr Rod Boyd received a telephone call placing STEREO 974 on standby by Acting Inspector Mick MYERS, Victoria Police re a Gas Leak at the AIR LIQUIDE PLANT, BUNNETT STREET SUNSHINE NORTH. The initial standby was for Emergency Response Broadcasting to advise local residents and vehicle drivers in the area of the current situation, and the correct procedures to adopt.

STEREO 974 swung into action liaising with the Acting Inspector Mick Myers. A message was broadcast to air immediately and subsequently every 15 Minutes.

A large number of calls were received at STEREO 974 from listeners expressing their thanks and appreciation for firstly the prompt manner in which the messages were broadcast and appreciation as they could take the relevant detours to avoid further congestion.

AUSTRALIA DAY HONOURS MARIBYRNONG’S VOLUNTEERS Posted: Tue 30th Jan 2007 - 14:01

Maribyrnong Council honoured the work of volunteers at the 2007 Civic Award Ceremony, held as part of Council's Australia Day celebrations on Friday 26 January.

Prior to the Awards luncheon, a Citizenship Ceremony was held with 40 residents becoming new Australian citizens.

"Australia Day is an appropriate time to acknowledge people who generously donate their time to those in need in our community," said Mayor of the City of Maribyrnong, Cr Michael Clarke.

"I was honoured to award the City of Maribyrnong's Citizen of the Year to Harold Simberg, of West Footscray. Harold exemplifies a community volunteer. To him, volunteering is a way of life. He never asks to be recognised and goes about his work for the benefit of those he so generously helps. I could not think of a more worthy winner," said Cr Clarke.

The winners of the 2007 Civic Awards were:

Mayoral Award: Tuong Dinh Nguyen – for his decade of voluntary host and producer role for Vietnamese language programs with community radio station, STEREO 974.

Cr Clarke said the award winners were selected by a judging panel made up of himself, Jennifer Legge, Council's Communications and Events Officer, 2006 Citizen of the Year, Mrs Lorraine Kennedy, 2006 Young Citizen of the Year, Ms Thao Pham, 2005 Citizen of the Year, Mr Ormond Butler and 1997 Citizen of the Year, Mrs Enid Thomas.

"I truly congratulate and thank all our award winners and everyone who was nominated this year for their efforts and inspirational work. The work that these people do is exceptional and their efforts go far beyond expectations of community service."

"It was extremely difficult to select only a few outstanding entries, and the civic awards ceremony is our way of acknowledging all the nominees who make an invaluable contribution to the City of Maribyrnong," said Cr Clarke.

At 6PM tonight (Tuesday 12 December 2006) General Manager of STEREO 974 Mr Rod Boyd received a telephone call placing STEREO 974 on standby by the Hobson Bay City Council Municipal Emergency Resource Officer, Mr Eddie Knights re a Fuel Leak at the Corner of Challis and Market Streets Newport. The initial standby was for Emergency Response broadcasting to advise local residents and vehicle drivers in the area of the current situation.

STEREO 974 swung into action liaising with the Mr Eddie Knights and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade. A message was broadcast to air immediately and subsequently every 30 Minutes, both in English Language and Ethnic Languages.

The STEREO 974 purpose built Outside Broadcast Van was utilised for the filming which took place in a North Western Suburb, on Friday 2 December 2005.

STEREO 974 features three times during the Movie and the STEREO 974 Logos and Signage are featured as the rights to use them were assigned to Malloy Productions for the purpose of utilisation in the Movie.

"STEREO 974 was thrilled at the reception that we received at the PAJERO CLUB MEETING on Wednesday 20 September 2006.

The STEREO 974 Four Wheel Drive Program consisting of Michael Coldham, Peter Dwyer, Alison McLaughlin, Ian Lacey and Joanne Lacey, were all in attendance, and the Program will be broadcast on Saturday 28 October 2006, between 10am and 11am.

The Outside Broadcast/ Recording gave the gathered members of the Pajero Club an insight into how such a program is put together. Members gave it the thumbs up on the great job that the STEREO 974 Four Wheel Drive Program Team do of presenting an informative show each week".
